A 3-year-old Arizona girl was killed Tuesday when the lid of her toy box accidentally closed and struck her on the head.
The Chandler Fire Department was called to a home near Frye and Alma School roads and found the girl was unresponsive and not breathing, according to the Arizona Republic. .The girl was in cardiac arrest, and rescue crews tried to revive her at the scene.
The girl was transported to Chandler Regional Hospital and pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to news reports, the girl, who was a triplet, was apparently trying to reach for a toy when the lid fell on her.
Both parents were home at the time of the accident.

So sad. The manufacturers should definitely be held responsible if there were any flaws. I assumed they all had a safety latch? My heart goes out to her family.
We have a toy chest that my son can't open on his own. It's not easy to close but once he's able, we will definitely reevaluate everything.

That's horrible... The poor family... I do find it interesting that such major damage was done by a bump on the head. I'm just wondering how heaving was the lid to this toy box to begin with, and if it was that heavy to have done all of that damage to the little girl, how did she open it to begin with?

Terrible story...my heart goes out to them. But, I too wonder how heavy this lid had to have been. I could see if it was a wooden toybox and the lid closing on a child could cause injury....but how heavy must it have to be to actually cause death. Horrifying.

My heart breaks for all involved...
It really doesn't take much force to cause a fatal head injury - if that was in fact the cause of death. Her airway may have been compromised, and the leading cause of cardiac death in kids is an unresolved respiratory issue....hard to say - but either way - a tragedy. So man things we just don't think of with unintentional injuries.

My heart goes out to family and friends. I think in my opinion we have to stop trying to blame companies and suing them for every item that is made out there.... We are the parents and we need to be inspecting and checking out what are kids are getting into ourselves...
EXAMPLES ~ Dressers tipping over when the kids climb on them and the TV falls on top of them , Grabbing onto shelves and the shelf falling down ,, Kids grabbing onto the door handle of a stove and the stove comes crashing down killing a child...
We as parents have to really watch our children ~ especially at the age of 3 . Kids are learning and discovering every minute of the day when not sleeping... Take a look around your house and think how possible an accident would be to happen if you were not supervising your young fragile child...
My kids had the Fischer price soft plastic toy box ~ that lid came down any times but also kids were not left unattended at such a young age.
